Carroll Gardens’ Most Expensive Restaurant Is Now Open for Business
Crafted by Executive Chef Nico Bouter, 6 NYC’s tasting menu is $195 per person, including a photoshoot and moment of gratitude.
Kirk Love knows that genuine hospitality is a rarity in today’s restaurant industry. A longtime resident of Carroll Gardens, Love had his eye on the open space at 481 Court Street for years. He’d invested in restaurants throughout his hometown of Philadelphia, as well as da Toscano in New York City’s West Village, where he’s a minority investor. He dreamed of opening his own eatery, despite esteemed friends in the industry cautioning against it.
“The two Franks at F & F repeatedly tried to talk me out of it,” Love said, referring to Frank Castronovo and Frank Falcinelli, co-owners and chefs of Frankies 457 Spuntino just one block up. “I kept talking about it, and they finally were like, ‘Look, if you keep talking about it, then you really want to do it, so do it.’ So that's what I did.”
Love took over the lease for 481 Court Street, which had been unoccupied for more than a decade, last April. This week, on Mar. 11, he opened 6 NYC, a New American restaurant whose name draws inspiration from Ina Garten’s theory that six people (and a roundtable) make for the ideal dinner party. 6 NYC’s prix fixe, eight-course tasting menu starts at $195 per person, making it the most expensive restaurant in Carroll Gardens.
