Ongoing tariff volatility is causing major uncertainty for small businesses, many of which rely on global sourcing and operate on thin margins. While businesses like Mexico In My Pocket, Rue Saint Paul, 3Sixteen and La Cabra explore creative pricing or sourcing alternatives, one expert stresses the importance of community engagement and emotional connection to weather the instability. The Roundup
First things first: Do we know anyone who went to Lucali’s casting call? I am so curious how it went. What kinds of questions does Mark Iacono ask? Why was it positioned like an audition for a Broadway show? Who will be Lucali’s Next Top Model!
Thanks for letting me get that out of the way. Now for your weekly roundup:
The Brooklyn Marine Task Force has extended its planning process until June. The decision was made “in recognition of the need to gather more information, ensure that the community is properly engaged and well-informed, and the final proposal considers all possibilities for this long-neglected waterfront site,” according to a statement released by Congressman Dan Goldman. Read our story on what’s at stake for the waterfront here.
District is getting into Wellness with a capital W. The gym is taking on additional space and adding a sauna, cold plunge, showers and more general working out space. Trainer Jazmin Scotto will also run a wellness studio in the building’s cellar.
Books Are Magic is hiring an events and marketing coordinator. They are also selling these adorable mini poetry totes.
In other literary news, the Poetry Society of America announced an open call for poems to be displayed on its storefront windows.
Talea collaborated with Flamingo on a girl shower beer. I’ve had shower wine and shower sparkling water, but never shower beer! This one has notes of blackberry and key lime.
Little L’s Pet Bakery is having a customer appreciation day next Saturday, April 19, before they officially close.
This is what training day at BK Circus looks like. 10/10 work vibes.
Lastly, I leave you with this adorable City Hall bouquet by The Fleurista, and the return of fusilli to Cremini’s, one of my favorite restaurants in the neighborhood. Happy Saturday!
Love the round up feature!
